Blog Archive 2018: Jenna Cornell's 'Words' premieres at the Wildwood Film Festival in Appleton

Jenna Cornell's short film Words premiered at the Wildwood Film Festival 2018 in Appleton, Wisconsin yesterday.

Words began in the fall of 2015 and was first performed at A Night of Epic Spoken Word and Musical Intermezzo in Horicon, WI hosted by the Horicon Phoenix Program. Since then, Jenna has recorded the poem and made it into a short film, which was submitted to the Wisconsin-based Wildwood Film Festival for inclusion in their 17th annual festival.

Focused on the power of language, Jenna Cornell said, "I wanted to express the importance of language and communication in our society. Words are more than letters on a page or things we say; they mean something - something far deeper. Our language has the power to uplift, the power to bring down, the power to heal, and the power to make sick. What we say has the power to change our world, IF we take the time to use it wisely."

The short film runs a few seconds over a minute, but it addresses everything from creative writing to sexuality to changing the world. While a minute can't change the world immediately, when people choose to consciously be aware of their communication they can slowly change the world for the better.

Words may not be a blockbuster action flick or tear-jerking Academy Award winning film; however, Words definitely makes a point: the words people say have power.
